Facebook vs Twitter Infographic 2010
I found some interesting numbers in this Facebook vs Twitter chart that digitalsurgeons put together. All stats are based on the US population but I still think they are interesting in a wider perspective.
Maybe not that surprisingly though, women are more social, at least on Facebook and Twitter. The number of Facebook users are far ahead with its 500 million vs 106 million Twitter users. It's interesting to see that the people that do use Twitter seem to be a bit more active than the average Facebook user. 52% of Twitter users update their status message everyday by comparision with only 12% of all Facebook users. In both cases more than half of the users that already follow a brand on Facebook or Twitter, say they will purchase something from that specific brand. That at least show that if you manage to create a connection and actually do something of value to your followers there's a rather big chance that you'll get a return on your investment in time.
Even though I'm a fan and huge consumer of many social media services and tools I don't think that this is a "free ticket to success" and I most certainly don't think that having a Facebook page and a Twitter account is enough or even a must in every case. Sure it's good to be where your customers are and to enable a direct communication channel with them but I am convinced that you need to actually give your customers something more than to just be where they are. That's why I think you as a brand owner need to think about what you can do for your customers (or potential customers)? How can you help them in their everyday life? If you give you shall receive! :)
